"MULES" and "GUMSHOES"

My art is intended to bring joy to the viewer by injecting wit and an intrinsic sense of humor. My mixed media sculptures are meant to be fun and light-hearted. The materials used are everyday items, found objects, and recycled materials. “GUMSHOES” and “MULES” are works from my series called DOUBLE ENTENDRE. By definition a double entendre is a figure of speech, similar to the pun, in which a spoken phrase can be understood in either of two ways. This can be a simple word that has two mutually exclusive meanings, and is thus a clever play on words. Hence, this piece speaks to the evolution and nuances of our language. The abstract elements in this series are transparent in their directness. The materials used add a literal sense to an otherwise figurative form. The obvious links between the piece, and what it is made of, inspire a visual understanding of the concept that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

-This piece was chosen to be part of an exhibit in the Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, Massachusetts in 2008.
